Integrating EUTIR to Strengthen EU Border and Coast Guard Operations
September 2025
The document is a policy input from the DigitalTrade4.EU consortium to the European Commission, proposing the integration of a European Trade Indexes Registry (EUTIR) into the EU Border and Coast Guard framework. It argues that EUTIR—a secure, decentralised, and interoperable verification layer for trade-related data—can significantly enhance Frontex’s operational effectiveness, situational awareness, and interoperability with customs, market surveillance, and third-country systems. The proposal aligns with the Commission’s goals to modernise border management, strengthen governance, harmonise standards, and support the EU’s green and digital transitions.
