Enhancing Digital Interoperability, Legal Trust, and ESG Integration in Battery Data Reporting

August 2025

This document presents feedback from the DigitalTrade4.EU consortium on the draft implementing regulation under Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, focusing on enhancing digital interoperability, legal trust, and ESG integration in battery data reporting. It proposes strategic amendments to ensure that battery-related reporting systems are future-proof, technologically neutral, and aligned with key EU digital initiatives such as the Digital Product Passport (DPP), eIDAS 2.0, and the potential EU Trade Document Registry (ETDR). The recommendations emphasize machine-readable data formats, secure digital identity authentication (including vLEI), cross-border data exchange pilot corridors, and integration with circular economy and sustainability frameworks. Supported by two roadmaps, the document outlines a vision for EU leadership in green-digital trade and regulatory technology, fostering transparency, compliance, and innovation across battery value chains.
