June 2025

This document presents input from the DigitalTrade4.EU consortium on the European Commission’s initiative to develop a European Data Union Strategy. It advocates for a unified, interoperable, and decentralised digital infrastructure that serves both civilian and defence purposes—leveraging harmonised standards like MLETR, eIDAS 2.0, and Digital Product Passports (DPPs). The submission highlights the strategic synergy between the Single Market, data sovereignty, and defence readiness, recommending dual-use digital solutions to enhance economic competitiveness, supply chain security, and EU strategic autonomy.
